Save the Dates!
Holiday Dinner: December 6, 2011
We are very happy to have Dylan Casey, former professional cyclist, speak at our December dinner! Dylan graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1995, and after a brief detour with a consulting firm in Philadelphia, he quit to pursue his dream of becoming a professional cyclist. After successfully winning 2 National Championships as an amateur, he was recruited by Lance Armstrong to join the United States Postal Service Professional Cycling team to compete at the top level of the sport in Europe. Along the way he won a Gold Medal at the 1999 Pan American Games and competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. After winning another National Championship in 2002, Dylan decided to hang up his wheels and pursue a new career in the Internet Technology industry by joining Google in 2003. Since then Dylan has launched over 100 different Google products and features and is a founding member of the recently launched Google+ product. He is married and has 2 young children.
Please join us for an interesting and fun filled evening with friends and colleagues! See you there!!
Post-DDW Review 2011
A very successful post-DDW Review took place on May 21st at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. There were more than 100 attendees, over two-thirds of whom were Gastroenterologists. Six speakers initially presented brief summaries of major developments that had occurred throughout the last year in their assigned and respective fields of expertise encompassing the range of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In addition, the speakers also then presented the most up-to-date and important information in their assigned fields from the recent DDW and EASL meetings. Participant feedback affirmed the high quality and value of the presentations.
Dr.’s Merriman and Streett shared data with attendees in regard to the financial challenges of running the NCSCG, especially in light of the recent and precipitous decline in pharmaceutical sponsorship. Input was solicited from participants about the establishment of future sustainable funding mechanisms. It was agreed that a modest increase in membership dues was appropriate. The likelihood of formally achieving not-for-profit status this year was reviewed. Methods of increasing membership of the NCSCG, especially new members were discussed.
The meeting was followed by a cocktail hour which was enjoyed by all.
The post-DDW review for 2012 is tentatively scheduled for 06/02/12.
